Unruly Women |
|
Kirtana developed this lecture demonstration based on women characters in Shakespeare. Inspired by Tina Parker’s “Women of Will” trilogy, Unruly Women chronologically traces archetypes in the work of Shakespeare. Accompanied by a visual presentation of paintings of Shakespeare’s women, this lec/dem places the plays in the context of their immediate past, which is medieval England and their present, which is the Papist paranoia of Elizabethan times. It examines some of Shakespeare’s sources for characters and narratives, from Plutarch, Ovid and Seneca to Hollinshed’s chronicles to Chaucer. Speeches quoted include: Juliet from Rome & Juliet—Act III Scene II Constance from King John—Act III Scene IV Rosalind’s Epilogue from As You Like it etc |
