The Music

1. Mango Rain Ripple Delight*

Structured on the Carnatic tillana format and played in Raag Hamsadvani.

2. Meditation*

This composition is mathematically complex. In the first movement, it places time signatures of 6 or Ek Taal and 7 or Rupak into a 4/4 time format, all the while maintaining the calmness of the song. In the second movement, while maintaining the feel of being in 5 or Khanda jathi, it is actually in triplets. For those who would like to count, this is the format for the second movement - 5555-3333-5555-8

3. Tara*

Composed to juxtapose harmony and melody. It begins with a drawn out alaap before the melody and rhythm enter.

4. Deviant Goddess*

Working with western harmony and the Indian Pentatonic scale. The first movement is in 4/4, while the second movement has 11 bars in triplets and 1 bar of 2, thus throwing off the listener.

5. Zui*

Composed to trash the Pentatonic scale and blend with the Quawali Kherwa rhythm. It pushes the limits of acoustic guitar in terms of melody and rhythm. Listen for the Suprabhatam inspired rhythm riff.

6. For You (Bossa Baba)*

Improvising Indian rhythms to the Bossa Nova groove, this composition has a single dominant melodic phrase that repeats and transforms.

7. Krishna Takes the Train & Mela*

An improvisation around several discrete melodic and rhythmic structures, a homage to kitsch.

8. Handel’s Presto from Suite #3 in D minor (Originally written for pianoforte, transposed for guitar by Konarak Reddy) & Francisco Tarrega’s Capricho Arabe Serenata para Guitarra

This experiment in linking a Western classical composition with a Moorish piece begins with a   Raag           Kirvani based alaap.

9. Bourrée

This popular piece by J.S.Bach is turned over by introducing Indian rhythm patterns and then a swing groove.

10. Kali Rocking*

Experiments with tempo. One movement is broken down to half time and here, often & for fun, the 1 is left un-accented.
